James Wagner Au at New World Notes recently blogged a nice piece about a short clip of animation we produced for the movie Role Models. In the scene Paul Rudd and McLovin (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) are battling each other in a computer game, using characters that look just like them. The game in reality is real-time animation we produced using Second Life, with game like graphic overlays (decreasing health bar, particle effects) which allowed the director to shoot as many takes as needed with the assurance of the same "game" footage on screen each time they rolled film (Paul Rudd's character needed to got his butt kicked basically).
Make sure to check the post on Jame's Blog, New World Notes, for more info about the project and how real-time animation fit the budget and timetable for this film.
